LGBTI+ Gozo announces call for upcoming publication.
LGBTI+Gozo always strives to uplift the voices of our community members. The organisation aims to bring the LGBTI+ experience in Gozo to the forefront, to ensure all people are represented equally, and afforded equal care and consideration. Following the success of the first Pride March in Gozo, LGBTI+Gozo is excited to announce an upcoming project that will document the real life experiences of LGBTI+ people living in Gozo.
We are calling all LGBTI+ Gozitans, whether you are a local, expat or Maltese person living in Gozo, to submit their written work for a chance to be published in the first collection of Gozitan stories. We will be accepting poems, short stories and prose that centre around the experience of being an LGBTI+ individual in Gozo. From coming out, to self-acceptance, to family, friends and religion, we aim to bring together the voices of LGBTI+ Gozitans and provide a narrative of what it is truly like to be in this community.
Submissions can be sent in either Maltese or English. LGBTI+Gozo also recognizes that being open may not always be safe for all people. For this purpose, we will be accepting anonymous submissions to uphold the privacy and safety of our community. We hope that this project will inspire members of our community to use their voices to help us show Gozo what it is like to live a day in our shoes. We encourage our Gozitan community to submit their written work and take part in this opportunity to have their stories published. The call for submissions will close at 11:59 pm on Sunday, November 13th.
If you are interested in submitting, please access this link where you can find the guidelines for this publication. Additional resources can be found on the LGBTI+Gozo Facebook page. We look forward to receiving your creative work!
LGBTI+Gozo will also be hosting a weekend writing workshop for those who would like to learn more about this creative medium. It will also be a chance for you to compose your pieces, perfect your work, and get a fresh set of eyes on your poems, prose or short stories.
This initiative is being supported by the Ministry for Gozo NGO Assistance Scheme, a funding programme for Voluntary Organisations on the Island of Gozo.
